At the Museum Maassluis, modern visual arts and the history of Maassluis all meet under one roof. There is a permanent display of the history of the city. The museum has both a historical collection from and about Maassluis and a collection of Dutch figurative art from the " generation of 1900". As a consequence of this mixed collection, you could say that the Museum Maassluis offers more than what an average regional museum does. Both collections of the Museum Maassluis are presented in alternating exhibitions and are sometimes even integrated. What's more, the Museum Maassluis pays attention to visual artists from the Rijnmond region. An important duty of the Museum resides in education. Each year, two or more educational projects accompany the exhibitions. One recurring educational project is "the Children's Museum", in which children can experience what is involved in running a museum and putting on an exhibition.

Friends of Museum Maassluis

The Friends of Museum Maassluis Association was founded in 1969 and has over 400 members. The aim of the Association is to foster interest in Museum Maassluis, as well as other museums elsewhere in the country. It endeavours to achieve this by: acquiring artefacts of artistic and historical interest for both the Museum and the residents of Maassluis; arranging facilities for members; organising cultural events; working closely with other cultural and historical institutions in Maassluis. The association supports the Museum in the acquisition of new works of art and special projects. Those who become members of the Friends of the Museum Maassluis also stay informed about all activities held at the museum. The minimum annual membership fee for the "Friends" is €12.50 for individuals and €35.00 for companies and institutions. A higher contribution is, of course, always very much appreciated.
