The low fixed bridges in Midden-Delfland and Westland form an obstacle for taller ships. Ships from this region can therefore often be recognised by “dismountable" wheelhouses. Bridges can be passed under by sailing like a "convertible". This is very charming, except when it rains.

Maassluis can be reached by water via:

·         the Nieuwe Waterweg and Vlaardingen max. safe passage clearance 1.95 m.

·         Delft (Buitenwatersloot) max. safe passage clearance 1.65 m.

·         Delft (Haantje/Sion) max. safe passage clearance 1.65 m (clearance +/- 5 cm due to variable water levels)

In former years, the Monstersche Sluis in Maassluis formed the connection to the Nieuwe Waterweg. This lock has since been restored to its former glory in September 2018. The port is also accessible via this route.

Coming from the Foppenplas, Maassluis can usually be reached without the need to fold things up, so to speak. The bridge over the Noordvliet at Oude Veiling measures 2.20m in height.
