If you are intrigued by the rich maritime history of the Netherlands, Maassluis is the place to be. In the beautiful and picturesque heart of this old city on the Nieuwe Waterweg lies the National Towage Museum. A beautiful and fascinating institution, located right there on the old port. The National Towage Museum is the only museum in the world that focuses its collection exclusively on towage shipping. In other words, unique.

You can learn a lot about the history and development of the Dutch towage business in the broadest terms. Attention is also paid to related work, such as sea rescues, salvage, diving, offshore work and the "heavy transport" industry that evolved from towage.

Apart from a permanent exhibition, there are regular varying exhibitions in which certain aspects of the rich history of towage are highlighted in detail. The collection includes photographs, paintings, tug models, towing equipment, tools, special awards, the property of legendary crews, radio cabins, a ship's bridge and even a ship simulator.

The museum houses a library and a documentation centre with logbooks, newspaper clippings, photos, videos, model drawings, film system and a visitor information system. A live-webcam hangs on the outside of the museum, so you can watch the inner port of Maassluis!
